Man wanted for possibly stalking juvenile student in Pacific Grove
The Pacific Grove Police Department needs public assistance in identifying a suspicious male after a juvenile student reported being followed while walking to Robert Down Elementary School.According to police, the student observed a male adult between 8:20 and 8:30 a.m. while on their way to school. The man then began following the student in the area of Sinex and Carmel Avenue, eventually, getting close enough that the student became afraid and ran the rest of the way to school. The student immediately reported the incident to the school's administration. Once school resource officer Andrea Hill was notified, she contacted Pacific Grove police, who immediately patrolled the neighborhoods around the elementary school.Police said the suspect was described as an adult male, who is approximately 50-60 years old and 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with short, grey or white hair that was spiked and clean-shaven. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, jeans, and black shoes. Pacific Grove Unified School District is working closely with police to identify the suspicious male suspect. In a letter addressed to students, the Pacific Grove Unified School District wrote the following: "Dear PGUSD Community,"We are writing to inform you of an incident that occurred earlier today concerning the safety of one of our students. It has come to our attention that a suspicious individual was observed following a student while walking to Robert Down Elementary School this morning May 9, 2024, at around 8:40 a.m. "Upon the student's report to our office staff, immediate action was taken, and law enforcement was contacted. The Pacific Grove Police Department (PGPD) School Resource Officer (SRO) responded within minutes and conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area. "Description of the individual is as follows: A white male adult in their 50s-60s with short gray/white hair spiked in the front. Height: approximately 5’10-6 ft tall and was last seen wearing a blue shirt, jeans, and black shoes. "We want to again reassure our community that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are the District’s top priority. While there is no indication at this time that any harm came to our students, we are taking this matter very seriously."Out of an abundance of caution, we urge all parents and guardians to remind their children about the importance of being vigilant and aware of their surroundings when walking to and from school. Please take this opportunity to reinforce their learned safety protocols (See Something Say Something and Think on Your Feet) with your children, such as walking in groups when possible and never engaging with strangers. "PGPD will provide additional patrol officers throughout the week before and after school. Additionally, we encourage anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the school today or who has any information regarding this incident to contact the PGPD immediately."We will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and school community. Thank you for your cooperation and support in this matter."
